The Arabian Nights is a medieval compilation of traditional tales from the Middle East, using the form of the framed story. The compiler and translator of these folk tales into Arabic is supposedly the Persian short story writer Abu Abd-Allah Muhammad el-Gahshigar, who lived in the 9th century. The main story about Scheherazade, which serves as a framework for the other stories.
